Book Review: Sol of the Colosseum – DNF

This book lost me when it described an elderly woman with “mocha brown” skin.  Not only is it cringe-worthy to describe persons of color with terms relating them to food, but I don’t think they even had coffee or chocolate back then in Europe, so…

I couldn’t tell if I was reading historical fiction or not. The opening scene, however, was promising, if not cliche–a woman dies just after having given birth to a baby who a man must decide whether or not keep.
