On Ghostwriting and Self-publishing

In my opinion, ghostwriting is scummy. The author isn’t really doing any of the work, are they? Well, maybe they’re providing an outline but they’re still taking the lazy way out. And, to a point, it’s deceiving the reader (though we all know it happens).

So my question is: Is it a plus-one for self-publishing because the reader can be (pretty) sure that it was written by the actual person whose name is on the cover? In indie anything, do you feel like you’re getting a real person versus a persona or trademark?

Just something that went through my mind the other day.
